Here's what usually happens at the start of client relationship: we define a project, and I generate an estimate. During the course of the project, you'll discover what it's really like to work with Me, Ink LLC. And you'll get something that will help your marketing program.
All the estimates I make are "not to exceed." If I under-estimate the time it will take me to do the work, it's my loss. If I over-estimate, that's your gain, because the invoice will be lower than the estimate. It will never be higher.
When I estimate a project, I consider the various tasks involved, the time I think each will take, and the skill level required. My top rate is $135. That's a lot less than you pay your lawyer and your accountant. And I actually do the work - you will never pay for my time, personal attention and expertise but get an assistant or hired gun.
If part of the project is outside my area of expertise, say if there's design or art direction involved, I have people to work with. Their fees will be billed separately, but I can include them in the estimate so you know the total costs up front.
